SAIS - Sustainable Finance: Applications & Methods
Preface
This is the textbook for Sustainable Finance: Applications & Methods, taught at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
This textbook is a work in progress. Constructive feedback is encouraged.
Course Objective
The objective of the course is to prepare students with practical skills and expertise that will enable them to succeed in roles related to financial markets and sustainability.
This textbook aims to enable this objective in two ways.
Data Analysis Bootcamp: The first section of this textbook helps provide students with the foundational R programming skills they will need to perform end-to-end data analysis. The four chapters complement the content in the excellent R for Data Science 2e (R4DS) textbook’s Whole Game section with applications relevant to sustainable finance.
Contemporary Sustainable Finance Knowledge-base: This section will be written by the course’s students. There are far too many interesting topics in sustainable finance to fit into a one semester course. Each student will be assigned a topic at random. They will write a concise chapter that introduces students to the key issues around a sustainable finance topic (i.e. green bond standards, debt for nature swaps, etc…), and provide an annotated guide of relevant resources for other students or professionals looking to get up to speed on this topic.
